The Knoch Wrestling Club

Our Mission

Our
Mission.

The Knoch Wrestling Boosters Association’s mission is to promote and develop, for all ages and gender students, the sports of wrestling in the Knoch School District.

We promote wrestling in folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman throughout the district, Pennsylvania, and the United States of America.

Our main objective is to create successful wrestlers and respected community members. We strive to develop young athletes, both on and off the mat.

We accomplish these goals by providing a financial support association group, competent coaching staff and a safe training environment to provide team and individual training opportunities within the community.

What Is
Wrestling.

Many people when they think wrestling have visions of the WWE. Though referred to as “professional wrestling”, there is very little in common between that form of entertainment and the the sport of wrestling.

Wrestling is one of the oldest and most popular combat sports in the world. There are cave drawings of wrestlers dating back as far as 3000 BC and it was one of the original Olympic events. Today, some of the best athletes in the world compete for Olympic and World titles in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. The style that is utilized at the youth, middle school, and high school level in Pennsylvania is called “folkstyle”.

Speaking of Pennsylvania - Western Pennsylvania in particular is known as a hotbed of wrestling talent. Many NCAA Champions and Olympians call our area of the state home. That means the competition and dedication to the sport in our area is very strong with clubs and training facilities all over the place.

What Is Wrestling

Why Wrestling

Why
Wrestling.

It’s said that while basketball or football players can go professional in the NBA or NFL respectively, wrestlers go professional in life. The primary thing wrestling teaches better than most sports is life lessons.

Wrestling teaches mental and physical toughness; how to be comfortable being uncomfortable; how to work and train as a team but stand on your own and face your challenges; how to control your emotions when you just had a big win and your teammate just had a big loss; but most of all, wrestling teaches work ethic.

There is no hiding it, wrestling is a demanding and difficult sport. The only way to be a competitive wrestler is to work hard at it - even the naturally gifted wrestlers have to work for it. What that means is that when wrestling is over, the wrestler takes that work ethic into the real world and applies it to all aspects of their lives helping them achieve success in whatever they do.

Other benefits of wrestling include:

  • Promotes physical fitness
  • Opponents are matched by size so anyone, regardless of size, can compete
  • No expensive equipment necessary
  • Open to people with handicaps and disabilities (talk to our coaches about wrestling and autism)
  • Not just for boys, girls wrestling is on the rise and Knoch has some future superstars
  • Excellent cross training program for football, especially linemen
  • Incredibly fun and rewarding
